Arm lift (Brachioplasty)

Arm Lift Charleston, WVIf you have loose arm skin and are tired of covering your arms, arm lift surgery is a wonderful way to firm and sculpt the upper arms. Fat deposits and loose skin are often a problem after weight loss, because the skin does not easily snap back into shape. The skin also loses elasticity as we age, causing the upper arms to lose shape.

Arm lift surgery is done to reshape and tighten the upper arms. There are different techniques that can be used to perform surgery, but the choice will depend on the amount of fat and sagging skin that is present.

The Procedure
Arm lift is usually carried out under general anesthesia, on an outpatient basis. For a full arm lift, Dr. Bandak will make an incision from under the arm to just above the crease of the elbow. The length of the incision depends on the amount of tissue that needs to be eliminated.

The scar is not easily visible after surgery, as it is hidden in the arm crease. The excess fat is removed by way of direct excision, or via liposuction. The underlying tissue is then tightened and reshaped, and the incisions closed.

Recovery
After treatment there will be some bruising, swelling, and redness. The discomfort may linger for up to 14 days. However, most patients are able to return to work after 7 days, as long as this does not involve strenuous work. Pain medication is prescribed after surgery to relieve any discomfort. Full recovery takes 6 to 12 months.

The results of arm lift surgery generally last 10 to 15 years, but this may be influenced by skin quality.
